At the end of February, the long-awaited Sanctuary at Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church opened its doors and celebrated their first service. The sanctuary’s 1100+ seats were filled for this emotional and blessed event. Before and after the service, the adjacent Foyer was full of happy church members, guests and friends. HLR Architects is happy to be a part of Columbia’s long building journey and this milestone event.

The completed new building also includes several classrooms and a large music rehearsal facility right behind the platform.

Construction work now moves to the existing building, where the former sanctuary is being repurposed into a smaller chapel and several new classrooms. A 30-foot wide opening is being cut to connect the new and existing foyers, which will create a circulation pathway from the old steeple entrance on Columbia Street into the new foyer. Construction is planned to wrap up in a few months on this exciting project.
